A typical residential septic systems is 1,000 gallons.  Additional fees may apply for systems that have clogged house to tank main sewer line, malfunctioning pumps, are exceeding normal operating levels or neglected systems that need to be 'reset'.  Pricing includes excavating one lid up to a depth of 2 feet.  Service lids that very deep, in an unknown location, in rocky soil or have other obstructions to access may incur additional fees.

If you have a backup in the house from the septic system, the above pictures illustrate the typical cause.  As the Before picture shows, the sewer pipe coming from the house is completely clogged with household waste and not allowing drainage into the septic system.  This is typically caused by the build up of grease and soap in the pipe, like a clogged artery.  The only way to resolve this is to pump and clean out the system as the After picture shows.

WHEN should I have my septic or aerobic system cleaned?

• For a drainfied system, every 2-3 years is the general rule for a family of four
• For an aerobic or pumped system, when there is 6 inches or more of sludge in the pump tank
• When waste backs up into the house, the pump stops or the sprinklers clog up
• Someone yells "there is black yucky water coming up in the shower or bathtub"!
